For over a century, the Poles Family has been cultivating exceptional grapes amidst the picturesque vineyards of the Tre Venezie region. As the tenth-generation steward, Luca Poles was raised surrounded by the vines nurtured by his father, Luigi.
From a young age, Luca developed a profound love for winemaking, inheriting not only the family's agricultural traditions but also a passion for creating wines that embody the rich heritage of their land. This deep-rooted connection to the earth and dedication to quality have been the cornerstone of CASA POLES®' enduring legacy.
In the early 90s, when Luca became the first International Director of the Prosecco worldwide brand leader Mionetto Spumanti di Valdobbiadene, he proved his instinctive Marketing skills paving the way to success in almost 60 countries for this fantastic sparkling wine called Prosecco.
His first amazing idea, a promotion called "Venice's Mix", was tested in a dozen of prestigious restaurants in Manhattan, was a genial hit in order to avoid the use of a brand already registered globally for a poor quality product already available in bottles. Because of his youth experiences such as a professional bartender, he knew that the true "Bellini cocktail" was a delightful blend of white-fleshed yellow peaches and sparkling Prosecco.
However, this was not known to the American consumer through local distributors, who were confused by the previously mentioned industrial product and from the erroneous understanding that this international drink was to be prepared with any Champagne or Spumante (in fact, history confirms that it was Giuseppe Cipriani, the founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, who created it in 1948). This practice was not at all common at the time, as Prosecco was hindered by the few who imported it, selling very little but altering the consumer price.
It was from there that in 1996, Luca launched the project of a US branch of his Italian producer, which over time managed the importation by controlling the starting price, then began the first distribution in New York and subsequently expanded sales reaching across all states, forming a network of companies and professionals that was later inherited by the company he founded. To this day, it is the most prestigious and recognized local Prosecco import company.
The "Venice's Mix" was then accompanied by a list of other cocktails, always prepared with a base of Prosecco and developed by Luca (the "Spago's Cocktails"), which effectively paved the way for the current "Spritz Cocktails" that have taken hold in the best restaurants and bars in America!
These initiatives, promoted for years by Luca to all industry professionals through conferences, meetings, advertising, and corporate or media communications, have become beloved staples, and it showcased his abilities to blend tradition with contemporary tastes.
But the "magic touch" came when, from an initiative designed for the Italian market that he called "Bar Spumeggiante" (a dedicated and branded corner where always mixed drinks and cocktails based on Prosecco were served) in search of a winning solution for the city of Manhattan, Luca laid the foundations of a venue where original Italian foods were informally offered (similar to the "tapas" concept) and only his wines were served: essentially, a Prosecco Bar. It was a huge success, and from that format, which in Italy had become a winner for a franchise chain, in New York it became the example of how to sell the product and create a successful economy.
After nearly 3 decades of success, the growth marches on and the appeal, consumption, and sales of Prosecco continue to go higher, as well as the profits for all involved professionals. Building on this experience, Luca plans to keep introducing new products and ideas, that can be appreciated through the CASA POLES® catalog. These initiatives seek to heighten the interest and understanding of international consumers, who are increasingly valuing the tradition of "Real Made in Italy" and thus our work establishing it even more firmly as a cultural custom.
